Dry Brushing for Cellulite Reduction: Tools and Techniques

Hi Everyone

I was just looking at my pics that I posted in the Body Stats folder and realized that my old pics actually look worse than my more recent ones. The quality of the old ones is so bad, that it didn’t show the true state of my cellulite and saddlebags. I don’t know why it took me so long to figure out that there was a better lighting source in my house other than my basement, but better late than never.

In any case, the reason I was looking at the pics is because I think I’m beginning to see an improvement in my cellulite at least when I look in the mirror. I would certainly hope to see some improvement after about 2 months of effort! My thighs are definitely firmer, since I’ve built muscle, and the muscle seems to spread the cellulite over a wider area so it’s not as prominent.

I’ve also been dry brushing daily which is supposed to stimulate the lymphatic system. I don’t know if it does or doesn’t, but after doing it for awhile, my skin is incredibly soft. So, I would highly recommend dry brushing whether it works on the lymphatic system or not. I bought a natural bristle brush with a handle and a strap on the head. The strap on the head is essential for getting a controlled brushing session. I do it before getting into the shower in the morning and it doesn’t take more than 3-5 minutes.  Let me see if I can find what I’m using…here’s a link:

This one looks like a tampico brush which is a vegetable fiber, but the one I use is a boar bristle brush, but it looks like it has a strap on the handle which is important. Here’s a boar bristle brush, but I can’t tell if it has a handle on it: Birch Wood Bath Brush Boar Bristle 41 cm Large.

Now this one has a brush and a massage head. This looks like a good deal, except since its doing double duty, there’s no strap on the head, but the short handle should give good control: Natural Boar Bristle BATH BRUSH new CELLULITE massager.

In any case, I dry brush my whole body. I start at my feet and sweep upwards. Onto my shins and calves in upward motions and then I concentrate more on my thighs and butt. First I do circular motions and then I end that area with long strokes towards the groin (that’s where there’s supposed to be some lymph nodes). I do it until the skin is a little sensitive. Then I start with my hands and sweep up my arm towards the underarms (where there’s supposed to be more lymph nodes).

After I’m done with my arms (which are all tingly, it feels very good), I lightly do my chest and stomach. Then my back. I don’t know if this gets rid of cellulite or stimulates the lymphatic system, but it certainly does feel good and my skin is very soft as a result.

Here’s a video clip on YouTube which demonstrates dry brushing technique. (It amazes me what I can find on YouTube. ) I recommend it and I like the woman giving the demo – she’s very pleasant.

Here’s another clip - a very detailed demo from what seems to be a very knowledgable woman.

On the video, she lists her website which I decided to visit and I recommend reading her About page. She’s an inspiration.
